Our Mission
Our mission is to provide the residents of Bridgeport with program opportunities and facility resources for the purpose of promoting individual growth and community cohesiveness. We fulfill this through our direct services and by collaborating with community and facility partners.
Our History
Originally the Burroughs Home, our building assisted single women, many working in Bridgeport factories. Later it transitioned into a senior living facility for women in need of daily assistance. In the mid 1990's the need for this type of facility no longer existed and enthusiasm quickly grew to create the first community center in the West End of Bridgeport. The Burroughs Community Center opened its doors in 1997. By providing a growing variety of youth and adult programs annually, Burroughs gives Bridgeport constituents the educational, recreational, social, and economic tools to lead successful lives. We also provide space and support to over 60 non-profits and community groups, bringing over 42,000 community members through our front door annually. In addition, our building is home to nine human service non-profit agencies, providing a workplace for more than 50 people.
